Native Seed Production and Sales Shooting Star Native Seeds, based in Spring Grove, Minnesota, was established in 1989 in response to the increasing demand for local genotype, native prairie seed. Using the equipment, facilities, land, and expertise gained from a commercial farming background, Shooting Star quickly became a major supplier of native seed for corporate, municipal, and private landowners across the upper Midwest. Foundation seed for the native production fields was originally collected within a 50-mile radius of the intersecting borders of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. As production and sales increased, additional seed sources from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana were added. There are currently over 800 acres of native grasses, wildflowers, sedges, and rushes in production, with more proposed for the near future.
Native Seed Cleaning Plant Shooting Star Native Seeds seed cleaning facility has been approved by both the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association (MCIA) and the Iowa Crop Improvement Association (ICIA). The plant’s state-of-the-art cleaning equipment, combined with Shooting Star’s seed production program, provides our customers with high quality seed at competitive prices. .
Installation and Management of Prairies and Wetlands Shooting Star Native Seeds specializes in native prairie and wetland installation and management services for corporate, municipal, and private projects, and operates a full fleet of site preparation, erosion control, and seeding equipment. Thousands of acres of native prairies and wetlands throughout the upper Midwest have been installed by Shooting Star since it began contracting.
